116:   Supply Chain Disruptions & Risk Management

May 2012, Frankfurt, hosted by GXS

  • Keynote: Building Resilience Against Supply Chain Disruptions by Mark Morley Industry Marketing Director at GXS
2011 was a tough year for high tech with both natural and political disasters disrupting global supply chains.  In response, companies have restructured their supply chains for greater resilience. New B2B tools are available now to enable unstructured supply chain communication, reducing risk. This session will provide examples of how companies have restructured their supply chains over the past 12 months and how B2B plays a critical role in this process.

Infineon and Siltronic want to go towards integrated supply chain processes even further. The next B2B step is now done with an efficient quality data availability and usage. The case study provides an overview about data generation and handling and the targets of the project, to achieve
    • a harmonized or even standardized approach
    • end-to-end benefits
    • improved visibility
    • faster reaction time
An outlook about the next common B2B projects rounds out the presentation.

  • "enliteB2B" the EDIFICE light B2B enabler by Dane Manes, B2B Process Adoption Group Chair and Jan Fuchs, enliteB2B Architect

EDIFICE embarked on a study identifying the bottlenecks preventing the proliferation of B2B integration in all layers of the business. The results of the study revealed that B2B message standards currently available are too complex. This complexity is responsible to the high investment businesses have to make before they can participate in an integrated B2B exchange with their partners.
Under the umbrella of the enliteB2B program EDIFICE launched a first deliverable: the enliteB2B format for the purchase order, the ASN and the invoice messages. Today, EDIFICE is ready to release those definitions to its membership.

The enliteB2B format had to comply to the following criteria:
    - The message can be produced or processed with one sequential write or read process
    - The message must be human readable
    - The message must be compatible with all existing middleware & managed service solutions
    - Any spread sheet program must be able to open the message
    - Any language can be used to define and use the messages.

EDIFICE is convinced that when consensus is found around the proposed enliteB2B messages, the investment required to participate in an integrated B2B program will be reduced by 90% in comparison to the investment required to work with other B2B standards and with 50% in comparison to proprietary formats.

Gerald Petz, Head of Studies Marketing and Electronic Business Bachelor and Dietmar Nedbal, Researcher at the Digital Econoy Unit both from the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences FH OÖ Studienbetriebs , Steyr Campus
"Enterprise 2.0 based IT projects linking value chain partners offer great potential for flexible, loosely-coupled integration and ad-hoc information exchange. But, stakeholders’ readiness, willingness and ability to cooperate need to be considered and addressed mercilessly to successfully implement common strategies, systems and processes. To increase the probability to succeed in such projects and to enhance the intensity of cooperation and trust across the value chain transparency, communication and participation need to be addressed. By presenting an integrated project methodology, the authors bridge the gap between existing scientific models and requirements for cross-organizational Enterprise 2.0 projects. The proposed methodology integrates change management’s critical success factors and principles as well as methods applicable to Enterprise 2.0 projects. The contribution of the paper is to explain and reflect the performed methodology as well as activities and selected key results from two pilot projects and to match the results with critical success factors which were derived from literature. With it, it provides elaborative insights into key features of Enterprise 2.0 platforms and project management."

  • The tipping point dilemma by Peter Stevens, Director IT - Global Corporate Applications at Godiva Chocolatier
In continued global economic difficult times, organizations – and especially SME’s – are challenged and confronted with their inside costs and efficiencies, and are striving to optimize their environments in better, faster, more reliable and interdependent ways. For these, and other, reasons, more and more organizations are going back to “main stream” or “core business” and are sharing the production line responsibilities within and outside of their organizations and forming partnerships throughout. This is leading to more need for accurate, timely and consistent data information flows, which by itself are challenged back into the SME size and knowledge skills of the workforce and means at disposal of tools, processes and procedures. We are pleased to share with you our past decade experience on handling this challenge …
