Summary Report

The 114th EDIFICE Plenary was held on 15-16 June 2011 in Munich and was hosted by Siltronic with co-sponsoring from SAP and Crossgate.

The theme covered:
Integrated Supply Chains: Achievements and a look to the Future”
"High Tech companies have focused on core processes (Ordering, Forecast, Logistic data, Invoice, etc.) in their supply chain to achieve an effective integration level with their partners in order to increase speed and flexibility, reduce manual handling and cost.
Can integrated supply chain solutions fulfill the expectations of companies and what are the key lessons learned to become even better?
In the future companies face even more cost pressures and requirements from their customers to provide the correct product, with the right volume at the right time in the right place. Hence requirements regarding efficient and effective supply chain processes are and will become a key competitive advantage.
What role will B2B (process and automation definitions) play to support the fulfillment of these requirements and help companies to stay one step ahead against their competition, using solutions that fit any size partner?"

The meeting featured theme presentations from Siltronic, Infineon, Wacker, SAP, Crossgate, Bosch, Nokia, Gartner Research and the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences.

EDIFICE had the privilege of welcoming Casey Teo of Freescale Singapore who is the chairman of AsiaB2B. Casey presented the special conditions for EDIFICE members to easily involve their peers in Asia and encourage them to join the AsiaB2B organisation as a member in order to contribute to its activities. For more details view the Offer and send a mail to Casey@asiaB2B or Dora@EDIFICE.

EDIFICE Activity Updates by the Task Group Chairmen
Below you will find the highlights and action points from each group. For more details on specific activities please contact the respective Task Groups directly.
  • ADC - Automatic Data Capture by Erich Guenter of IBM
ADC released the "Set Label - Identification of Hierarchical Structured Product Data on Product Packages" guideline in Repository 2011. This Guideline was created at the request of the Telecom Industry. EDIFICE wishes to amongst all contributors specially thank Deloitte for their support and taking the lead in editing the material.

Next topics being worked are guidelines for "Product & Product Marking in extended Supply Chains" and "Delivery Note".

  • BPA - B2B Process Adoption by Dane Manes of GXS
BPA provided support to the D.10A upgrade work for all the EDIFACT MIGs and published the B2B Cross walk (see Repository 2011-1)

The Business Process Integrator (BPI) for  "Quote to Cash" is a simplified data model in an easy text-based format which provides an integration option for SME.
BPA calls for 'Pilots' amongst membership willing to put the effort into practice.  Next step will be to promote the applicability to other industries and find government sponsors. Pilot candidates are asked to get in touch with EDIFICE-BPA.

It was decided to split the group into different sub-groups in order to work the details of the different topics on the road map. These topics are ROI, Modelling, Education/Training and any other topic raised by membership.

  • DCM-Distribution Channel Management by Juergen Linkens, Freescale Semiconductor
This group has finalised the upgrade of all its EDIFACT MIGs to D.10A. The resulting Data Maintenance Requests will be submitted to the EDIFACT board shortly.
Membership is asked to raise any DCM related topics they might have and join the monthly conference calls on the 1st Friday of each month.

  • BILL - eInvoicing by Tony Nisbett, IBM
The eInvoicing TG held a very successful meeting on the day preceding the Plenary. Tony presented the CEN/ISSS eInvoicing status that will publish its Phase III deliverables in August 2011.

An important topic is around Compliance in eInvoicing. The group decided to create a new deliverable in the format of a "eInvoicing self-assessment/gap analysis" tool. The scope will cover entities, geographies, transactions, lines of business, ERPs, specific customer/supplier requests,... and will include a Service Provider assessment.
The Draft deliverable will be presented at November Plenary.

All member representatives interested to contribute to this action item are asked to get in touch with the secretariat.
